IO Foundation
The endowment of Indianapolis Opera is held by the Indianapolis Opera Foundation, a separate not-for-profit entity governed by its own Board of Directors.
The Foundation, originally underwritten by an anonymous gift and subsequent matching gift campaigns, is comprised of several funds established to underwrite specific programs or to generate income for Indianapolis Opera. The Foundation has grown steadily through additional gifts and careful management providing some stability and financial security.
As the Board pursues programs to build the endowment, the challenge is reflected in National Arts Stabilization recommendations which advise that an organization maintain a permanent endowment of at least three times its annual operating budget to enable the company to meet its long-term goals.
Indianapolis Opera is working to close the gap between its existing endowment and the target goal for stabilization.
The Hanish Young Artists Fund was added to the Foundation's assets in 1998. The fund was created to support the professional growth and training of young artists working with Indianapolis Opera. Additional contributions to support these goals may be directed to the Hanish Fund.
