The Indianapolis Opera has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire, improve, and sustainably operate the Basile Opera Center – making it a permanent part of the Opera’s long-term strategy and commitment to the Central Indiana community. This is only possible with the support of community members like you.

For the Indianapolis Opera, the Basile Opera Center will establish a permanent home for the company and its activities – while avoiding relocation over the next six to 12 months. In the long-term, as the Opera approaches its 50th anniversary in 2025, the reimagined Basile Opera Center will help position us for our next era of service, artistry, and impact.

For the arts and cultural community, this project preserves and enhances some of the city’s most unique rehearsal, performance, and event spaces at a time when each is in short supply. Further, the planned operating endowment will ensure that a greater number of organizations of all types and sizes can access and utilize these spaces affordably.

For our Midtown neighbors, this project saves a unique and historic property from likely demolition and redevelopment, allows for the continued use of the park-like property for community events and activities, and enhances the vitality of one of Indy’s most diverse, emerging geographies.

For Indianapolis and Central Indiana more broadly, this project will contribute to our ongoing cultural transformation, helping to ensure that great art continues to thrive in our city -- a key factor in attracting great companies and diverse talent to Indianapolis.

You can ensure that the Basile Opera Center grows as a midtown hub for cultural activities and matures as a premiere venue for vocal arts training and performances.  Please join the community of supporters who have already committed to this project including The Lilly Endowment, Allen Whitehill Clowes Foundation, and the Pauline K. Stein Fund, a fund of the Indianapolis Foundation.
