Indianapolis Opera’s Opera in the Park set
By Mark Ambrogi
For Lyndsay Moy, Indianapolis Opera’s Opera in the Park is always special and this one has special significance.
Moy, director of education and community engagement for Indianapolis Opera, will be joined by Ganson Salmon as feature performers in Opera in the Park in a 7 p.m. free concert Sept. 7 at Garfield Park in Indianapolis.
“Since this is our 50th anniversary season, we really wanted to highlight Hoosier talent, so (general director) David (Starkey) graciously asked me to sing because I was raised in Indianapolis,” Moy said. “I went through Indianapolis Children’s Choir. I did show choir and (earned) my undergraduate (degree) at DePauw University.” Read more...

Lobster Palooza Co-Chairs Passionate About Indy Opera
By Mark Ambrogi
Jordan Steele has a lifelong connection to the Indianapolis Opera.
“My dad, John Schmid, was the chorus master for Indianapolis Opera for 40 years, so I grew up going to rehearsals and all of the performances,” Steele said. “My dad passed away in 2022 and I wanted to keep his passion for opera alive by getting more involved with IO. The staff is truly amazing and makes IO still feel like home even after my dad’s passing.”
Steele, who lives on the north side of Indianapolis, is co-chair with Rob Ellinger of Lobster Palooza, the 14th annual New England Style Lobster Boil. The fundraiser is set for 6 p.m. July 13 at the Basile Opera Center in Indianapolis. Lobster Palooza serves as the kickoff for Indianapolis Opera’s 50th anniversary season. Read more...

'West Side Story' and 'Barber of Seville' are part of Indianapolis Opera's 50th season
By Domenica Bongiovanni
Indianapolis Opera will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a lineup of famous classics including "The Barber of Seville" and "West Side Story."
And while shows like that are in demand, the heart of this special season centers on the people who have made productions like this possible for 50 years and the venues where audiences have come together, General Director David Starkey said.
"What's the perfect show? There really wasn't one. I mean, this company has done almost all the major works," he said. "What do you choose? It could have been a long list. So we feel that it's about the people. We feel like it's about celebrating also the venues." Read more...
