Indianapolis Opera Resident Artist Program
Since 1989, Indianapolis Opera has worked with over 130 young artists who have gone on to national and international careers in some of the world’s largest opera houses.  As a young artist development program, Indianapolis Opera delivers to young artists a complete training experience.  IO resident artists present operatic performances and education experiences throughout Indiana and in neighboring states.

In 2015 Opera News named Mezzo Soprano Emily Fons one of their 25 up
and coming artists. Emily is an example of how great performers begin at Indianapolis Opera, after performing in the Resident Artist program during 2008.

Artists who participate in the resident artist program comment on both the breadth and depth of their experiences. From multiple opportunities to perform, intensive work with guest faculty and work with Indianapolis Opera team members, we prepare our artists to take that next important step in their careers.

PROGRAM CURRICULUM:
  • Mainstage Performances
  • Recitals
  • Performance Collaborations with Partner Organizations
  • Statewide Education Tour

"I recently completed my time as Resident Artist at Indianapolis Opera. I had a wonderful time in the program. While there, I had the opportunity to work with a number of Industry Professionals on an individual basis. The variety of performances ranged from baroque music performed with period instruments to 20th century. The four resident artists travelled around the state to perform educational outreach to schools as well as community centers and professional care centers. We also had weekly meetings to discuss various professional development topics. The thing I liked the most about the program was that it was unique and designed to fit the unique needs and skills of our particular group. Indianapolis Opera also provided a very valuable insight into the day-to-day inner-workings of a regional opera company. I feel like this program has been a very valuable stepping stone as I continue to try and find my place in this business. I would highly encourage any colleagues to apply for this program, especially as a first RAP contract!"
